After south film industries, Bengali cinema is now all set to jump on the pan-India bandwagon with the upcoming gangster drama Chengiz. Chengiz stars Bengali superstar Jeet, who has been maintaining stoic silence about the film much to the criticism of his fans. However, now, the star has come out with a banger of an announcement that the film will be the first Bengali movie to get a simultaneous release in Hindi.

Jeet took to Twitter to announce the latest development along with a new poster of the film. He wrote, “We are glad to announce that #CHENGIZ will be the first-ever Bengali film to have a simultaneous Hindi release (sic).”

Chengiz revolves around the underworld of Calcutta and is set in the 70s to the mid-90s of the city. It follows the titular hero’s rise in the underworld. Directed by Rajesh Ganguly, who has also doubled up as dialogue and screenplay writer, the film also stars Shataf Figar, Susmita Chatterjee and Rohit Bose Roy in pivotal roles. Neeraj Pandey has co-written the movie with Rajesh.

Baahubali, Pushpa, KGF, RRR, Ponniyin Selvan 1, and other south movies have found takers across the country. Looks like Chengiz is an attempt by the Bengali film industry to get a piece of the pan-Indian pie. The film follows pretty much the same template as KGF and Pushpa, which were about the rise of an underdog in the underworld.

Produced by Jeetz Filmworks and AA Films, Chengiz is touted to be a high-octane entertainer, which has created a good buzz in Bengal, but one has to see if the film will be able to do what KGF did to Kannada cinema.
