Sakshi Tanwar back on TV with new show ‘Çode Red’

Sakshi Tanwar assumes the role of a conscience keeper in her latest TV show Code Red

“I am the voice that tells them not to. I am the one who advises them to confide in someone, to look for a support system of friends and family. That is how problems can be resolved,” says Sakshi Tanwar.

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and Sakshi Tanwar couldn’t agree more. As television’s superstar bahu, who carries the aura of the most “trustworthy celebrity”, Tanwar is back on screen after Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, with Colors new show, Code Red. She plays the narrator of the show and will be bringing to life stories under three broad themes — Umeed focuses on suicide; Awaaz talks about violence against women and children, and Chakravyuh throws light on physical and psychological entrapment.

“Everyone is dealing with their own problems, rejections, failures, and while there are shows that talk and discuss about all this, Code Red takes it to another level as this is a solution-driven show. Through these narrations, we are aiming at educating and creating a more vigilant society, ethically and morally conscious of its surroundings,” she says.

Talking about the relevance of Code Red, which she insists is different from Satyamev Jayate, Tanwar says that one is so pressurised by daily demands of life that one stops paying heed to the inner voice and gives into tricky situations. “I am the voice that tells them not to. I am the one who advises them to confide in someone, to look for a support system of friends and family. That is how problems can be resolved,” she says.

A small-town girl herself, Tanwar, who hails from Alwar, Rajasthan, credits her parents for raising her with an open mind. “I feel blessed everyday for being surrounded by people who have instilled faith and courage in me. This show is my chance to give back to our society that is disintegrating at so many levels,” she says. For Tanwar, life in small towns is less complicated and more connected, and she hopes to achieve this feeling through Code Red. “Nowadays, there is no safety net to bounce back on because we, in a way, let go of everyone in the rat race. In the process, we compromise, ignore and let things happen. This affects a society on the whole,” she adds.

A problem cannot be solved in isolation, it eventually becomes everyone’s problem, and Tanwar drew a fine example of it when she stood up to defend National Award-winning actor, Shweta Basu Prasad, who was accused of prostitution in Hyderabad last year. For someone who has such a strong bent towards social responsibility, she is adamant that politics is not her cup of tea. Instead, Tanwar bides her time supporting children in need and helping paraplegic kids.
