Thudarum trailer: Offering double the joy for Mohanlal fans — who are already on cloud nine due to the impending release of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s third directorial venture L2: Empuraan — the trailer of the Malayalam superstar’s much-anticipated Thudarum has arrived. Unlike many of Mohanlal’s recent films, which primarily served as star vehicles, the Tharun Moorthy directorial appears to be a grounded drama that aims to tug at the heartstrings of viewers.
The 117-second trailer opens with Mohanlal’s character Shanmugham in conversation with a friend. As he reminisces — albeit with a hint of sadness — about his school days, recalling how their Mathematics teacher would show up unannounced during free periods to assign difficult problems, his friend (Maniyanpilla Raju) retorts, “As if you’ve ever stepped inside a school,” instantly setting the film’s lighthearted tone. The trailer then shifts focus to the joyful facets of Shanmugham’s life, particularly his affectionate bond with his wife (Shobana).

Interestingly, the promo also includes a moment that seems to subtly offer a reply to real-life speculation about Mohanlal’s beard, with many claiming he avoids shaving due to a botched Botox procedure. In a humorous Tamil dialogue, he quips, “Dey, intha thaadi iruntha yaarukkuda prechanai? (Who has a problem with this beard, huh?)”
The video further reveals that Shanmugham shares an emotional bond with his car, an old black Ambassador. “Do you know how many great personalities’ bums have graced (the seats of) my car?” he boasts. However, as the trailer progresses, it becomes clear that the car has somehow ended up in police custody, forcing Shanmugham to go to great lengths to reclaim it. Towards the end, the promo takes a more intense turn, hinting at high-stakes drama with an emotionally charged Mohanlal at its core.
Thudarum also marks a long-awaited reunion of one of Malayalam cinema’s most beloved on-screen pairs, Mohanlal and Shobana, who are sharing the screen for the first time in 15 years since Amal Neerad’s Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded (2009). Their last outing as a romantic pair was in Joshiy’s Mampazhakkalam (2004).
Also starring Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu and Irshad Ali in key roles, Thudarum boasts cinematography by Shaji Kumar, editing by Nishadh Yusuf and Shafeeque VB and music by Jakes Bejoy. The movie will hit the screens soon.
