Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar has come out in defense of her decision to star in actor Dileep’s latest comedy thriller Pavi Caretaker, despite him being accused in the 2017 case of abduction and sexual assault of a leading female actor in Kochi. Radikaa said she didn’t refuse to work with Dileep as he “was an accused and his case is still going on.”

She was asked about her collaboration with Dileep in the light of the recent revelations of the Justice Hema Committee report, which was formed after the 2017 case after which Dileep and 12 others were arrested. In an interview with Asianet, Radikaa said, “He was an accused, and the case is still going on. So I cannot go and say I will not act with him because he is an accused. In my industry, there are so many people who are accused of bigger things.

“I can tell you about Chief Ministers who have done worse. Am I not talking to them? I have seen top political people misbehaving with women. I am not here to point fingers and say this man or that person has done wrong,” she said.

On February 17, 2017, a leading Malayalam film actress was abducted and sexually assaulted in her car by a group of men, which sparked outrage across Kerala and brought under the scanner the discriminatory treatment faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. The Hema Committee report was made public on August 19, five years after it was submitted to the Kerala government. Pavi Caretaker was released in cinemas earlier this year and opened to mixed reception.
