Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s daughter, Vismaya, is all set to make her acting debut with Thudakkam, helmed by 2018 director Jude Anthany Joseph. Marking the official commencement of the movie’s production, a pooja ceremony was held in Kochi on Thursday, October 30. Mohanlal, his wife Suchitra, and their son and actor Pranav graced the occasion, cheering on Vismaya as she stepped into the world of cinema.

Among those who extended heartfelt wishes to her was legendary director Priyadarshan, Mohanlal’s childhood friend and longtime collaborator. Taking to social media, he posted a photo of Vismaya posing with her book, Grains of Stardust, and shared that she has been to him what his own daughter, Kalyani Priyadarshan, is. “I carried two kids in my arms, Kalyani in one hand and Maya in the other. That’s how we grew up as a family. As Lal mentioned today, we never imagined they would one day step into films. Just like how Kalyani had Lokah, let Maya’s Thudakkam be a beautiful beginning too. ❤️ God bless Maya,” he wrote.

The post soon went viral and even drew a reaction from Kalyani herself, who shared that she had no idea her father had an Instagram account until now. “Not gonna lie, I had no idea that my dad was on Instagram until this very moment,” she wrote while sharing Priyadarshan’s post to her Instagram stories. She, too, extended her best wishes to Vismaya. Sharing a childhood photo of them, Kalyani wrote, “And this beautiful human starts her journey as an actor today too. You got this Mayoo. You always have.”

While addressing the gathering during Thudakkam’s puja ceremony, Mohanlal said that he never thought his children would end up in the world of cinema. “I never wanted to act in films. I came into the cinema as if by destiny. It was the audience who made me an actor and has supported me for 48 years. I consider everything that has happened in my life a wonder. I never once thought my children would act in films because they have their own privacy and goals, and I have always respected that,” Mathrubhumi quoted him as saying.

The acting legend added, “Acting in films is never easy, but when Maya expressed a desire to pursue it, we ensured she had all the support she needed. Now, with a good script in hand, she is stepping into cinema. Everything in my life has been a wonder, and I even chose to name my daughter Vismaya.”
