Prithviraj Sukumaran on casting Aamir Khan’s sister Nikhat Khan in L2 Empuraan: ‘I didn’t know they were related’

In a promotional event in Mumbai, Prithviraj opened up about Nikhat’s role in Empuraan. “She is there only for a little while in my film, but I know what she means to Empuraan. In fact, I didn’t she was Aamir sir’s sister,” said Prithviraj, who revealed that she was cast after he liked her audition.

“It was the casting director who told me that she was Aamir sir’s sister, and I called him up soon,” said Prithviraj, who also revealed that he just received a text from Aamir. “He asked how his sister was in the film.”

Apart from Nikhat Khan, Empuraan, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, stars Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Nyla Usha. Talking about directing such a stellar ensemble, Prithviraj said, “I truly believe I’ve become a better actor after shooting this film. I’ve been a witness to the process of so many great actors.”

Empuraan marks the third directorial venture of actor-filmmaker Prithviraj, who previously helmed Lucifer and Bro Daddy, and all three films star Mohanlal in the lead. L2: Empuraan is set to hit the screens worldwide on March 27, and it will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
