Nivin Pauly addresses sexual assault allegations: ‘If fake allegations become the norm, it isn’t right’
At the press meet, Nivin Pauly denied meeting or knowing the complainant, and reiterated that he will take the legal recourse, and prove his innocence.

Just hours after Kerala Police registered a sexual assault case against actor Nivin Pauly, the Malayalam star met the press to explain his side of the story. This action was taken by the Ernakulam police after receiving a complaint from the survivor stating that Nivin had sexually assaulted her in Dubai under the pretext of offering a role in a film. The police had filed a case on six people, including Nivin and a film producer. As the news spread on media like wildfire, Nivin categorically denied all the allegations in a post on social media before meeting the press.
Starting off by denying knowing or meeting such a person, Nivin said this was a baseless allegation. “This is the first time I am facing such an allegation. Seeing the media flashing my name all over, it wasn’t a good space to be. It affected my family and me too,” said the actor, who asserted that he doesn’t want to run or hide from scrutiny. “I know justice is on my side, and I haven’t done anything. That is why I am holding this press meet. Let the law take its course. I will fight this legally, and go to any extent it takes to prove my innocence.”
Nivin Pauly revealed that he did receive a call from the police station asking about the complaint made by the survivor, and he clarified his stance during the conversation. “I told the CI who called me that I didn’t know this particular person, and they said the case will be closed as a fake one. When I asked if I can file a counter case, they asked me to not do it and give them unnecessary spotlight. Even my legal team suggested the same,” said Nivin.
The actor shared that he doesn’t have any proof per se because he doesn’t know the person in the first place. “If fake allegations become the norm, it isn’t right. I am fighting for everyone who is facing such false allegations. Procedure does take some time. Friends from cinema did express their solidarity. But even if I have to fight it out on my own, I will do it. Also, I am not running away, or going in hiding. I am here, and I will be here,” said Nivin.
Answering questions about the intentions of the person filing such a case, Nivin Pauly said he wasn’t sure of it, but believes it cannot be the doing of a single individual. “It could be a conspiracy by a group of people. I am not sure though. In fact, when the police reached out to me and read the complaint against my name, as is the procedure, I explained my side. They felt convinced too. Since the matter is sub judice, I am being careful about what I am saying right now,” said Nivin, who revealed that except one person from the list of his co-accused, he doesn’t know anybody else. Not wanting to name the person he knew, Nivin revealed, “He is someone who has funded many Malayalam films. Even my films have been financed by him. That is all the connection I have with this said person.”
Reasserting that this legal recourse is not just for him, but an example for many facing such fake allegations, Nivin said, “Fake allegations can be levied against anyone and any time. I want that to stop.”
Ending the press meet by saying that whenever such allegations come to light, it is the family that suffers first, Nivin shared, “I called my mom first, and told her that such a news is doing the rounds. She gave me the courage to face this and asked me to not get tensed.”
He shared that it is this courage that has brought him to the press meet, where he once again denied meeting or knowing the complainant, and reiterated that he will take the legal recourse, and prove his innocence.
Such cases against prominent Malayalam stars, including Jayasurya, Mukesh and Siddique, have rattled the core of the industry. Many stalwarts, including Mammootty and Mohanlal, have urged for a thorough and fair investigation to take place to unearth the truth, but insisted this shouldn’t be used as a tool to paint Malayalam cinema in poor light.
