Directed by Dominic Arun, Lokah: Chapter 1 has now become the third-biggest Malayalam hit of 2025, trailing behind only Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan and Thudarum and has earned Rs 123.5 crore worldwide. The film has outperformed Mohanlal’s recently released Hridayapoorvam, which released on the same day and has only managed Rs 22.85 crore in nine days in India. Lokah, which also stars Naslen, has already surpassed the nine-day collection of his previous hit Alappuzha Gymkhana, which had earned Rs 26.3 crore in the same time frame.
Importantly, Lokah marks a significant moment in Malayalam cinema as it stands as the industry’s first female-led superhero film and the inaugural installment in the planned Wayfarer Cinematic Universe. However, the film also found itself in controversy after a line referring to Bengaluru as the “capital of drugs and crime” was deemed problematic by several Kannada filmmakers. In response, Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, along with Raj B Shetty’s Lighter Buddha Films, issued an apology and assured the public that the line would be edited out of the film.
