What gets movie stars together under one roof, treating fans with a rarely seen picture of all them in the same frame? Keraleeyam cultural festival. On Wednesday, when Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the week-long cultural fest, fans got to witness the unbelievable as stalwarts from the industry, such as Kamal Haasan, Mammootty and Mohanlal, came together for the event.

The Kerala CM shared an epic star-studded selfie on X (formerly Twitter), which featured Mohanlal holding a phone and clicking the viral picture. The selfie featured the CM along with the stars, including Shobhana.

“Inaugurated the week-long festival, #Keraleeyam, at Thiruvananthapuram. Prominent personalities like Yusuff Ali, Ravi Pillai, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Shobhana, and many more graced the event. This festival celebrates the spirit of Kerala, featuring numerous events showcasing our achievements, progress, and rich cultural heritage to the world,” the caption read.

The official page of Keraleeyam on X also shared pictures from the grand ceremony and captioned it, “A grand opening! #Kerala is in a festive mood for the next 7 days. #Keraleeyam2023 kickstarted at the state capital.”

A video from the event gave a glimpse of Kamal Haasan’s speech. The actor-filmmaker praised Kerala for its development and said it has successfully implemented the “most extensive land reform, universal health care and educational system in India”.

“But through collective actions also, successfully created a rights-based political culture, where the common man does not merely hope but demand from the government to enhance all spheres of their daily lives,” Haasan added.

Organised by the state government, Keraleeyam is billed as the biggest celebration of Kerala and will be held from November 1 to November 7 at Thiruvananthapuram.
