Naveen Arora, 32, the son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora
A senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader’s son was allegedly shot dead in Punjab’s Ferozepur by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 7 pm when Naveen Arora, 32, the son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who ran a dupatta shop in the main bazaar, was walking home.
According to the police, the assailants opened fire at him near the Baba Noor Shah Wali dargah. One of the bullets struck him in the head, and he was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said the police. The family has refused to opt for cremation, seeking justice in the case, according to information from Ferozepur-based BJP leader Heera Sodhi.
CCTV footage from nearby establishments shows the two attackers fleeing the spot moments after the firing. Senior police officers, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Sukhwinder Singh, have formed multiple teams to identify and trace the suspects, police sources said.
The murder triggered widespread anger among local traders and RSS workers. On Sunday, the markets wore a deserted look. Shopkeepers demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants.
Heera Sodhi, senior BJP leader of Ferozepur, said, “On Sunday, markets are partially closed, but today, shopkeepers have closed them altogether.” Senior RSS functionary Ashwani Dhawan also urged the authorities to take strict action.
The police have not yet confirmed any motive behind the killing. Naveen Arora belonged to a family long associated with the RSS—his father, as well as his late grandfather Dina Nath Arora, were both active in the organisation.
Officers said the investigation is in its early stages and that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts are expected to provide crucial leads. Meanwhile, Bhupinder Singh, SSP Ferozepur, met with the Arora family on Saturday evening and assured them that swift action would be taken, according to information from police authorities.
Reacting to the incident, BJP state president Sunil Jakhar said, “The broad-daylight shooting murder of Naveen Arora, the young son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora in Ferozepur, has once again exposed the law-and-order failures under the AAP government. Gangsters are running a parallel government in the state, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has failed to fulfil his responsibilities and has left Punjab unattended. Today, the people of Punjab are being forced to live in an atmosphere of fear.”
In a social media post, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister of State (Railways), said, “The brutal murder of Naveen Arora in daylight in Ferozepur has not only shaken the Arora family, but also the entire Punjab. Such a gruesome incident at the house of senior RSS volunteer and respected social worker Baldev Raj Arora is a stark reminder that the culprits have become fearless and courageous. People are feeling increasingly unsafe today, and the need for tougher action and real justice in the state is felt more than ever. BJP will take some serious action as these crimes are happening daily and government is completely failing to control it.”
