Mammootty in KalamkavalMammootty's Kalamkaval will hit screens on November 28.

The trailer of Kalamkaval, starring Mammootty and Vinayakan in pivotal roles, was released on Thursday. Going by the footage, the film promises to be a gritty, hard-hitting thriller.

The trailer of Kalamkaval opens with an SJ Ethan quote: “The venom beneath can’t be suppressed forever.” It then shifts to a recreation of the popular TV program Vallathoru Katha, hosted by investigative journalist Babu Ramachandran. The host recounts a petty quarrel between two young men in the border town of Kottayikkonam, which lies between Thiruvananthapuram and Tamil Nadu. We soon learn that the fight has escalated into a full-blown communal dispute between two local communities.

The trailer then cuts to the Kerala Police Special Investigation Team, assigned to probe the unrest, only to uncover a far more sinister criminal act. It concludes with a silhouetted Mammootty, his face hidden in the shadows as he smokes and delivers the chilling line, “Do you know what gives the greatest pleasure when you kill it?”, strongly suggesting that Mammootty will be portraying an anti-hero in the film.

Kalamkaval marks Mammootty’s return to the silver screen after an eight-month break. The movie was previously reported to be a fictionalised retelling of the life and crimes of serial killer “Cyanide Mohan,” who was convicted of murdering 20 women between 2003 and 2009. However, the film’s team has not confirmed whether Mammootty will be portraying a character based on him.
