Empuraan first look: Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action sequel is bigger and mightier than Lucifer
Helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan is a sequel to the director's debut project Lucifer, which became one of the biggest hits in the Malayalam film industry.

A month after the film went on floors, Team L2E – Empuraan has released the highly-anticipated project’s first-look poster, which suggests that it will exceed fans’ expectations. Helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan is a sequel to the director’s debut project Lucifer, which became one of the biggest hits in the Malayalam film industry.
In contrast to Lucifer, a political action-thriller set in Kerala, Empuraan appears to transcend its predecessor in scale. The first-look poster emphasises this scaling-up, featuring Khureshi-Ab’raam aka Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal), positioned at the centre, facing away while holding a machine gun. He appears to be looking at a fighter chopper approaching him, with two large trucks nearby engulfed in flames. It’s worth noting that Mohanlal’s face remains obscured on the poster, much like how it was on the Lucifer poster as well.
Apart from Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas and Indrajith Sukumaran will also reprise their respective characters from the first movie. Empuraan will be jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, marking the latter’s entry into the Malayalam film industry.

One of the biggest box office successes in Malayalam cinema, Lucifer was also remade in Telugu as GodFather, with Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, and Salman Khan portraying the same characters originally played by Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, and Prithviraj, respectively. Empuraan will also be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, alongside its original Malayalam version.
Mohanlal is currently gearing up for two highly ambitious films — Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban and Barroz: Guardian of Treasures, which marks his directorial debut.
