Barroz trailer: After being postponed multiple times — leading many to speculate that the movie might never see the light of day — it seems that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s debut directorial venture, Barroz 3D: Guardian of Treasure, is finally ready to hit the screens. Days after the announcement of the movie’s new release date, Mohanlal and his team unveiled its official trailer, piquing audiences’ interest.
The 123-second virtual 3D trailer offers some tantalising glimpses into Barroz’s world and the treasure he fiercely guards. “There is a badass ghost in the de Gama palace,” a child’s voice exclaims as Barroz emerges from the shadows, wielding a sword and shield, ever-ready to take on anyone who dares to approach the treasure. Featuring striking visuals that bring the film’s richly imagined world to life, supported by intricate production design and impressive visual effects, the trailer also shows Barroz’s adorable bond with children. However, the film promises more than just fun, as it also delves into a high-stakes battle between good and evil, with Barroz determined to protect the treasure at all costs.
On November 15, director Fazil — who launched Mohanlal’s career with his debut film Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980) — disclosed that Barroz would be released on December 25, coinciding with Christmas. Fazil shared that this date holds significant emotional value for Mohanlal as it marks the day he made his debut in Malayalam cinema with the release of Manjil Virinja Pookkal. In a heartfelt video, Fazil reflected on Mohanlal’s remarkable journey in cinema. He also noted that December 25 was the release date of Manichitrathazhu (1993), one of the most celebrated Indian films of all time. Directed by Fazil himself, Manichitrathazhu featured Mohanlal, Shobana and Suresh Gopi in lead roles and became a landmark in Malayalam cinema history. The film was later remade into multiple languages, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) in Hindi with Akshay Kumar and Chandramukhi (2005) in Tamil with Rajinikanth.
Billed as a children’s fantasy film, the trailer for Barroz was first screened theatrically alongside Suriya’s Kanguva. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie boasts Santosh Sivan as its director of photography.
