The new films will mark the return of Russo brothers to Marvel studios after global blockbusters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

It is a new dawn for the Avengers movies, as well as for filmmaker duo Russo brothers. Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who have together helmed four of the biggest Marvel films of all times, including the last two Avenger outings, have been tapped to direct once again. Russo brothers are in early stages of discussion with Marvel Studios to direct Avengers 5 and 6, The Hollywood Reporter said.
According to a source quoted by the publication, the Russo brothers will return to the franchise to oversee the next two Avengers outings, a position which earlier also saw Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy being in contention for.
If it materialises, it will mark the return of Russo brothers to Marvel studios after delivering global blockbusters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The publication revealed that the fifth Avengers movie was previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and was to star Jonathan Majors as time-traveling villain Kang. But the project will now get a new name and direction after the actor was convicted of assault and harassment in December. The sixth Avengers film is Secret Wars, While Avengers 5 is set for May 1, 2026 release, Secret Wars is locked to open on May 7, 2027.
After their blockbuster run last decade, the Russo brothers ventured into the streaming space with their directorial titles like Cherry, The Gray Man and their upcoming Netflix title The Electric State. On the production front, they backed projects such as the globe-trotting soy thriller Citadel starring Priyanka Chopra, Academy Award winning Everything Everywhere All at Once and Chris Hemsworth starrer Extraction franchise.
