In “thanK you aIMee,” Taylor Swift addresses the longstanding feud between her and Kim, which began at the 2009 MTV VMAs. The lyrics of the song, “All that time you were throwin’ punches, / I was buildin’ somethin’,” Swift sings in the song’s chorus. “And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed ‘F—k you, Aimee’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushin’ / But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”

For the unversed, it all began when Kim’s ex-husband Kanye West interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech on stage at the 2009 VMAs saying that she didn’t deserve her award for best female video. Later, he included Taylor’s name in his song without taking her permission. Taylor objected to the song and called it misogynistic.

Kim defended Kanye and even released their phone call conversation where it seemed that Kanye had taken permission from Taylor before releasing the song. However, when the full conversation was leaked, it became clear that Kanye didn’t give full details to Taylor.

Taylor’s new album also references her past relationships with Matty Healy and Joe Alwyn, as well as other celebrities and artists, including Charlie Puth, Clara Bow, Stevie Nicks, and Patti Smith.

Taylor Swift has opened up on the idea behind her new album her commentary on Amazon Music. She shared how our society loves to watch artists in pain.“What do we do to our writers, and our artists, and our creatives? We put them through hell. We watch what they create, then we judge it. We love to watch artists in pain, often to the point where I think sometimes as a society we provoke that pain and we just watch what happens,” she said.
