In an effort to streamline traffic operations across Gurgaon, the police last week introduced a new geo-location tracking system and a technology-driven traffic management platform inspired by the ‘Stanford Design Thinking’ principles.
The tracking system brings together real-time information on one screen, allowing officers to monitor key junctions, traffic flow, and field personnel.
Zonal officers can now file digital reports from the field, flag road repairs or barricading needs, and upload photographs, all of which reach the control room instantly. Residents can also send traffic suggestions or complaints through an online form or by email.
The Indian Express spoke with officials from the city traffic police to understand how the new system strengthens their existing processes for managing congestion and coordinating road-repair work.
Earlier, on-ground issues passed through 20 inspectors before reaching the control room. Now, updates from 120 zonal officers arrive directly, along with location data and other details to the control room. This has sped up responses such as deploying cranes, workers and equipment.
Data from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s control room is also being integrated to sharpen decision-making. While officials said feedback from the people has been limited so far, they expect suggestions to grow as awareness spreads about the system.
Officials said that the “Stanford Design Thinking” framework focuses on understanding user needs, identifying the core problem, brainstorming solutions, building simple prototypes and testing them with real users. The process repeats until the solution fits.

They are aimed at reducing congestion, preventing accidents, and improving road safety,” the spokesperson added.
