House of the Dragon season 2 teaser: Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower to lock horns in a bloody war

Get ready for more dragons and power struggles as the highly anticipated teaser of House of the Dragon season 2 debuted at the CCXP fan expo in Brazil. Fans were treated to a glimpse of the aftermath of the gripping season 1 finale, setting the stage for a fierce conflict in the upcoming season.

The teaser hinted at the aftermath of the tragic death of Lucerys Velaryon during a sky battle between dragons. Princess Rhaenyra warns about the ominous consequences of a war between kin, highlighting the looming conflict between her and Alicent Hightower. The grief-stricken Rhaenyra, portrayed by Emma D’Arcy, stands somberly at Dragonstone Castle, signalling the impending war for the Iron Throne.

House of the Dragon, helmed by showrunner Ryan Condal, delves into the ruthless Dance of the Dragons, a tumultuous chapter in Westeros history that devastated the powerful Targaryen Empire. Season 1 set the stage for the power struggle: Rhaenyra, the chosen heir, faced opposition from Otto Hightower and his faction, resulting in the usurpation of the throne by Aegon II Targaryen.

House of the Dragon Season 1 received huge acclaim from critics and the audience alike. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards,  the show won Best Television Series – Drama and D’Arcy was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The series earned nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won three British Academy Television Craft Awards.

Season 2 promises a shorter run of eight episodes but a more deliberate pace, as Condal hinted. While an exact release date is yet to be announced, HBO confirmed a premiere in early summer 2024, intensifying anticipation for the series’ return.
