Majumdar, while speaking with media persons, said, “Today we had two programmes in Nadia. One was a police station gherao regarding the high-handedness of police during Jagaddhatri Puja immersion and Rash Mela in Nadia.”
Union minister of State for education and development of North Eastern Region and former West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar’s convoy was attacked by “unknown miscreants” in the Nadia district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The BJP leader who was on a visit to the Nadia district to attend two programmes, alleged that the attack was carried out by “local TMC workers.”
The incident took place when Majumdar’s convoy was passing through Nabadwip bus stand at around 9 pm.
“There was a commotion while his convoy passed through the Nabadwip bus stand area. We are enquiring and trying to get details on what actually happened,” said a senior West Bengal police officer.
Majumdar, while speaking with media persons, said, “Today we had two programmes in Nadia. One was a police station gherao regarding the high-handedness of police during Jagaddhatri Puja immersion and Rash Mela in Nadia.”
“After the protest programme, I had another event — a book stall opening in Rash Utsav. While my convoy was passing from the Nabadwip area, two vehicles of my convoy lagged behind and tried to make a turn at Nabadwip bus stand. The vehicles faced attack by local TMC workers and were vandalised. At least two of our leaders got injured,” Majumdar added.
The incident marks the fourth alleged attack on a BJP leader in West Bengal in quick succession.
