Actor Charlie Sheen is back on the top of every tabloid since the release of the new documentary around his life titled aka Charlie Sheen. The actor and his co-stars opened up about his addiction issues and how that affected his career and the people around him. Sheen himself told many stories about the extreme benders he used to go on, involving crack, cocaine, alcohol and other substances. He also talked about his long and hard journey towards sobriety, from which he got distracted many times.

Talking about his issues with substance abuse, Sheen recalled his infamous 2011 interview with ABC, where he talked about doing seven grams of crack cocaine. The interview went viral, and people from the fraternity and fans of the actor grew even more concerned for his health than before. Sheen’s long-time friend and drug dealer Marco talked about his addiction and how it reached dangerous levels at one point. Reportedly even the producers of the show Two and a Half Men and his then wife Denise Richards threatened Sheen that they would shut down the show if he didn’t get himself admitted into rehab.

Help came for the actor, but from an avenue he had never expected. Attempts had been made in the past to bring Sheen back on track and away from the world of booze and drugs, but they proved to be futile. This time it was Marco, the man who supplied the actor with drugs for years, who came to his rescue, in a way. Sheen’s drug counsellor actually approached Marco and told him to reduce the potency of the cocaine he was giving to the actor in increments. Marco kept this up for quite some time in order to trick the actor into consuming fewer drugs. Still, cocaine remained a big part of his life for a long time, and it spilt onto his professional life quite often.

Sheen talked about the time he was shooting for the film Free Money and how he couldn’t for the life of him stay awake during filming. That obviously was because of the drug-fuelled bender he had pulled the previous night, and now slowly his body was crashing. In a last desperate attempt to stay awake, Sheen rushed to the bathroom with some ice in a glass and shoved the ice cubes in his butt in order to stay awake. The documentary actually features the scene which was shot right after Sheen did this.

The infamous interview that started all this clamour was controversial in every sense of the word. When asked about people viewing him as a bipolar man with addiction issues, Sheen said, “People are entitled to their opinions. You borrow my brain for 5 seconds, and you’ll be like, ‘Please unplug this bastard.’ I don’t remember the last time I took drugs. It was a couple of days before the suits rolled in. I was banging seven-gram rocks because that’s how I roll. I survived that because it’s me; I got tiger blood.”
