Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds to skip Met Gala 2025, but Justin Baldoni isn’t the reason: Report

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are skipping Met Gala 2025, marking their third year away. Despite Blake’s legal drama with Justin Baldoni, insiders say their decision was made long before.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, the iconic Met Gala couple known for their consistently stylish, on-theme appearances, are reportedly skipping the 2025 event. According to TMZ, Anna Wintour’s event on May 5 will mark their third consecutive year sitting out fashion’s biggest night. While the news comes amid Lively’s high-profile legal drama with Justin Baldoni, sources say their decision has nothing to do with him or the courtroom headlines.

Why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are skipping the 2025 Met Gala

Lively and Reynolds haven’t attended the Met Gala since 2022, when they served as co-chairs. This year, as the couple remains in the spotlight over their legal drama involving It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni, TMZ reports he’s not the reason behind their decision to skip the May event. In fact, “they made the call long before any of that unfolded.”

The 2022 Met Gala marked Blake Lively’s 10th appearance at the iconic New York City event, where she and Ryan Reynolds co-chaired alongside Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda for the ‘Gilded Glamour’ theme. Lively stole the show that night, arriving in a custom Atelier Versace gown that transformed in real-time. Halfway up the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she flipped the train of her dress to reveal a stunning aqua tone. The moment is still considered one of the most iconic Met Gala reveals to date.

In 2024, Page Six reported the couple chose to skip that year’s event to spend more time at home with their kids. Over the years, Lively has become a Met Gala favourite, with her themed looks consistently turning heads. And while some might be quick to link their latest decision to skip 2025 to the legal headlines, insiders say that’s not the case. The two were recently spotted at SNL’s 50th-anniversary celebration, looking perfectly at ease stepping back into the spotlight.

This year’s Met Gala theme, announced back in October 2024, is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The dress code takes inspiration from the “exhibit’s focus on menswear and is intentionally open-ended, giving guests room to get creative with their interpretations.”

In December 2024, Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni and the production company, accusing them of harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and running a smear campaign against her during the film’s shoot. A month later, in January 2025, Baldoni hit back with a $400 million lawsuit, dragging Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds into the feud, along with their publicist Leslie Sloane, her firm Vision PR Inc., and The New York Times, which first published the article detailing Lively’s claims.
