We are hypocrites when it comes to child abuse: Rahul Bose

Child abuse is not only a national scandal but is a massive shame in our society, says filmstar and activist Rahul Bose.

Child abuse is not only a national scandal but is a massive shame in our society, says filmstar and activist Rahul Bose.

Bose, known as the poster boy of Indian art house cinema, said that it was high time that the society acknowledged the problem, which should be discussed clinically and dispassionately.

The actor was speaking during a programme on ‘Protection and Safety of Children from Sexual Abuses’ in the national

capital last evening.

“This issue is very close to my heart and I have even directed a movie on child abuse called ‘Everybody Says I Am Fine’,which tells the story of a girl who was abused by her own father,” the actor said.

“53 per cent children in India face sexual abuse both boys and girls but we still feel uncomfortable to talk about it. We are still hypocrites when it comes to issues like child abuse, sex or for that matter homosexuality. It is high time that we brought the issue from under the carpet,” Bose added.

The actor has given his voice to an audio book in Hindi ‘Goodgoodi Karna, gale lagana: Sparsh ke niyam seekhiye’ by Germany’s child care organisation ‘terre des hommes’ and ‘Tulir’,which was released by Ajit Prakash Shah, the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Famous for movies like ‘English August’,’Jhankar Beats’,’Tahaan’ and ‘Before the Rains’,Bose is involved with a number of child care organisations and runs his own NGO ‘The Foundation’.
