Vivienne Westwood to design new Brits trophies

The legendary fashion designer will be part of the organisers' plan to give the Brit Awards a complete overhaul.

Legendary designer Vivienne Westwood has been roped in to design the new trophies for UK’s annual Brit Awards as part of organisers’ plans to give next year’s ceremony a complete overhaul.

Brit Awards bosses have said that the Outstanding Contribution honour, which has previously been handed to Paul McCartney,U2 and Robbie Williams, will be scrapped at the 2011 event. The prize-giving will also change venue from the longstanding Earl’s Court area in west London to the O2 arena in south-east London, reported Contactmusic.

But it is the winners’ trophies which will see the biggest change – organisers have announced that they will be created by “leading British creative individuals”,with Westwood taking on designing duties next year.

“Vivienne stands for all the things we want to inspire in tomorrow’s generation of artists. We are honoured she accepted our offer of designing 2011’s trophy,” said Brits chairman David Joseph.

The annual ceremony will take place on 15 February.
