Shyam Benegal retrospective to be held in Abu Dhabi

The retrospective will also include public lecture and conversation by Anuradha Needham.

The Indian Film Society of the United Arab Emirates is organizing a Shyam Benegal retrospective in Abu Dhabi later this week.

During the three-day event,27-30 Benegal’s acclaimed works such as “The Making of the Mahatma”,”Zubeida”,”Sardari Begum” and “Mammo” will be screened.

The retrospective will also include public lecture and conversation by Anuradha Needham of Oberlin College,who will launch her forthcoming book ‘New Indian Cinema in Post-Independence India: The Cultural Work of Shyam Benegal’s

Films’.

This will be followed by a conversation with the 77-year-old filmmaker. The event is organized in collaboration with the cultural wing of the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi,Kerala Social Centre,New York University in Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Indian School.
