Shruti Haasan is living up to her celebrity status

The song Ho Jaane De has been composed and sung by Raaghav Saachar and also features him opposite Shruti.

It’s easier to be a star than an actor these days. How else could one explain the thick, starry air about Shruti Haasan at a promotional event for her music video for Kwality Walls-Universal Music’s album Ho Jaane De’s title track?

The daughter of veteran actors Sarika and Kamal Haasan,Shruti arrived at the venue two hours late, with a cavalcade of support staff that did much of the talking for her.

The song Ho Jaane De,a romantic number already on air,has been composed and sung by Raaghav Saachar and also features him opposite Shruti. A television commercial on the same is out too. Despite being a singer,Shruti hasn’t lent her voice to the track. The industry take is that she wants to make her singing debut alongside her acting in Sohan Shah’s Luck opposite Imran Khan, where she’s sung one of the songs. “I’m a singer and that doesn’t mean I’ll sing for everything,” she quips.

To explain her decision to be in the video, the debutant subscribes to a few clichés. “Kwality Walls is a brand I grew up with; besides, the video has a very young theme since both Raaghav and I play college students. He wants to propose to me but is extremely shy about it. And it’s about how his friends help win me over. So when the idea was presented to me,I took it up for it reminded me of college days.”

Last year,Shruti was often seen in Mumbai circles, either performing at music dos or giving her father company at social events. The 22-year-old even walked the ramp at a fashion week for her friend,Chennai-based designer Rehane. “I’ve been busy lately shooting for Luck and was travelling. But I’ll be back soon, performing at the usual venues,” she adds.

Luck will also mark her debut in playback singing in the industry and it’s her co-star Khan who was responsible. However, she confesses that “there’s a lot more to come as I’m also going to help with the music of my dad’s Tamil adaptation of Neeraj Panday’s A Wednesday”.
