Im a bit confused. Somehow the promos of Bullet Raja and R Rajkumar (previously titled Rambo Rajkumar) are merging in my minds eye. Maybe its just me but somehow the songs, the landscape and the vibe of both these films are looking similar. There is a world of a difference between Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Even the men helming the projects are very different in their style and treatment. Tigmanshu Dhulia cannot do what a Prabhudheva can and vice versa. Dhulia cant dance like Prabhudheva and well,I might be a little biased but theres this bit about dialogue writing that Tigmanshu excels in and nobody comes close to him. I appreciate the Rowdy Rathore catchphrase style of Dont angry me,sure I do,but when it comes to exquisite wordplay, lines that sear and caress,Tigmanshu is a rockstar. Sample this gem from Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster Returns: Aapko pata hai mard zyada gaaliyan kyun dete hain? Kyunki woh rote kum hain. Now match that.
So what makes the Saif vehicle look so similar to Shahids make-or-break film? Maybe its the heartland template feel so overused and abused post-Dabangg. One Chulbul Pandey is enough and when the original star is still rocking his comic book persona,we really dont need Saif and Shahid doing it the Salman way. Also, the obvious common factor is the leading lady Sonakshi Sinha. She plays a Bengali girl in Bullet Raja while in R Rajkumar she does some action stuff. The confusion emanates from the similarity of Sonakshis styling. We know she rocks the Indian look she looked quite lovely in Lootera but somehow her styling and the scope of her roles are so similar that sometimes it becomes tough to differentiate her films. Her track record is enviousin just over three years she has had over eight releases and most of them have been hits but the Sonakshi breakthrough moment is yet to come. She had her moments in Lootera but Im waiting to be shocked by her. The way Deepika Padukone had her born-again moment in Cocktail or Priyanka Chopra in Aitraaz. Theres more to Sonakshi than what the tried n tested commercial films have shown us but for that she has to be brave enough to choose differently. She could be the differentiator between Bullet Raja and R Rajkumar. If only.
