Romantic hero
After having made a niche for himself in romantic comedies, being Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,Imran is now looking at doing a different kind of film.
Its been a good year for me, says Imran Khan,as he revels in the success of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, the just-released romcom which has him playing a simple,small-town boy,Kush, who falls for his brothers would-be wife.
An actor has to prove himself with every film, and in this movie I proved that I could dance! In fact, the compliment that pleased me no end was that I could dance well. It was a big relief as song n dance is a part and parcel of our films. There are six songs in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and this was the first film where I have lip-synched to songs, and danced to choreographed steps.
The other thing that has excited the actor is that that he is catering to a different section of the audience after his last hit Delhi Belly. Every film does not cater to all the people. While Delhi Bellycatered to young adults and a certain section of society,MBKDis a complete family entertainer where children and parents can see the film together. In fact with this film,my market has stretched, and has found an audience in cities like Indore,Jaipur and Ahmedabad, smiles Imran.
Khan also stresses that we should stop feeling apologetic about the typical Bollywood cinema. I may do all kinds of films, but I also enjoy over-the top,and typical song and dance routine. It is something we are known for,the world over. The good old 80s and 90s cinema will always be special,as they reflect our culture. Those are the films my grandfather made and it wouldnt be wrong to say that my house, car and clothes have come from those films, he gushes.
The actor who soon starts shooting for the second schedule of Karan Johars Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu,a story about two young people and how they influence each other, says that he now wants to give a break to romcoms.I dont know what I shall sign next, but it will definitely not be a romcom. Romcoms are fun to make and watch. And I feel good about the success of the couple of romcoms that I have done,as they show that I can deliver in that genre, but now I am craving to do something different. Soon you will hear an announcement about my next project, smiles Khan.
. Ask him if he is an perfectionist like his uncle,Aamir Khan, and he retorts sharply.
I dont know why the word perfectionist is treated like a gaali! Isnt it a good thing if one is a perfectionist? I am very proud of mamu, for besides being a perfectionist he has this ability to figure the pulse of the audience. He can watch a rough cut of a film and fix whatever he feels is not right.
