Pakistan bans ‘The Dirty Picture’

Ekta Kapoor says,"I believe people in those countries are still not comfortable with women."

Vidya Balan starrer ‘The Dirty Picture’ has been banned in Pakistan because of its bold scenes,according to the producer.

Confirming the ban,film’s producer Ekta Kapoor said,”I believe people in those countries are still not comfortable with women and women empowerment.”

The film,which depicts the rise and fall of a dancing star of 80s,releases in India tomorrow.

Ekta,who made a brief stop over in Delhi,seemed happy with the initial reaction to the film.

“Vidya’s performance in the film is the bravest and best performance by any Bollywood actress.”

‘The Dirty Picture’ is apparently based on the tragic life of Silk Smitha but after objections from her family,the producers are saying that the star was only an inspiration.

Apart from Vidya in her boldest avatar,the film stars Naseeruddin Shah,Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor in lead. It has been directed by Milan Luthria.

There was no immediate confirmation from Pakistan on the ban.
