From a chance to fall in love with a K-drama star to scripting your own live story; a tryst with the devil to taking on a brutal challenge to test your physical might, raw, real and risqué is getting hot on screens. The bets are high on reality TV, as ‘Unscripted’ is the way to go forward, with nearly 75 percent viewers preferring the genre over others in the Asia Pacific Region, as per Netflix data.

The OTT major unveiled its impressive slate of its upcoming shows and content strategy in Seoul at an exclusive event. Netflix is betting big on reality content this year and these are the series to watch out for.

Love like a K-Drama

From the slow burn to heart pounding romances, K-dramas have spoiled us when it comes to love. And now, here’s a chance to create your very own romance straight out of the soft-focus world of a K-Drama. Love Like A K-Drama is a quirky dating show which has four Japanese actresses pair up with four Korean actors to win and land roles in six K-dramas. But for that, they need to get rather amorous and take part in some intimate auditions.

Love Like a K-drama will premiere on November 28.

Single’s Inferno 3

Flirty singles seeking and scrambling for dates and love on a deserted island. The romantic tension is escalated as they leave no stone unturned to find their potential love interest. An interesting aspect being none of the participants can reveal their age or professional backgrounds. So how quickly can one fall in love or out of it? Can you fake chemistry and feelings?

Singles Inferno appealed to viewers for the rawness and emotions which come to the fore, as participants pulled all stops to seek “Paradise”. After two successful seasons, the third edition promises to be hotter, with several twists and turns.

Single’s Inferno 3 will premiere in December.

Physical 100 Season 2

The visual motif of the white plaster torsos became synonymous with S Korea’s popular survival series, Physical 100. The survival series pits one hundred of Korea’s highest-profile athletes, bodybuilders and sports influencers against one another in a series of grueling fitness challenges. The series returns with a season 2, with a new theme, higher stakes, and a more diverse participation. From ancient Greece, the timeline for season 2 shifts to the 1950’s and 60’s as people learn the game of survival.

Creator Jang Ho Gil says the new season will also show a diverse participation, with more female representation. The new season will have participants weighing anywhere between 40-100 kgs. The focus of Season 2 would be on what makes a good physique. Well, time to get the gym membership renewed as we gear up to watch some of the fittest bodies on the planet.

Physical 100 season 2 will premiere in the last quarter of 2023.

The Devil’s Plan

Celebrities, influencers and recruits in the middle of a battle of wits and a power play of intelligence, that’s The Devil’s Plan for you. The contestants includes Problematic Men star Ha Seok Jin, actor and inventor Lee Si Won who owns more than 10 patents, and SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan. The participants, at the suggestion of the devil, take off their social masks to reveal their true identity. The contestants will be at a week-long camp where they’ll test their limits through fierce mind-bending games to find the final winner and be crowned as the brainiest player. The prize money is 500 million Korean won (a little over Rs 3 crore). Directed by the maestro of mystery and entertainment Jeong Jong Yeon, known for his previous works such as Great Escape, and High School Mystery Club, Devil’s Plan will premiere in the last quarter of 2023.

Zombieverse

It’s a well-known fact, no one does zombies better than Korea. The ongoing Zombieverse, takes participants on a quest to survive a real zombie apocalypse. Park Jin Kyung, the show creator observes, “Korea has a range of variety shows as well as well-known zombie scripted dramas and films, so we decided to merge the two streams together with this.” A reality version of The Walking Dead, the show gives you the chills and thrills sans the jump scare moment. If you can suspend disbelief as the survivors do, then the show gives you the much-needed wild ride.
