Irrfan Khan on winning the National Award

'It has been a fairly lengthy time-span of disappointments,' the actor said

Irrfan Khan is elated by winning the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in Paan Singh Tomar.

Although he thought he should have got the prestigious award for Haasil which was his first film with Tigmanshu Dhulia. And then again he thought it would be for Mira Nair’s The Namesake – “So it has been a fairly lengthy time-span of disappointments,” the actor said

The actor also hosted a party along with two other National Award winners Nikhil Advani and Shankar Mahadevan however Tigmanshu Dhulia couldn’t celebrate as he was busy shooting for his up[coming Bullet Raja with Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in Lucknow. The actor said he is heading for Lucknow to party with the director as,“More than myself,I am happy for Tigmanshu.”

Irrfan says he noticed an unusual public participation in the collective desire that he wins. “I was amazed at how passionately people wanted me to get the National Award for Pan Singh Tomar. It was almost like a public campaign.”

On sharing the award Irrfan says he is happy to share the National Award for Best Actor with Vikram Gokhale.
