Honoured to be part of Nila Madhab Panda’s film: Parvin Dabas
Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid is an adventure thriller based movie on the issue of female foeticide.
Actor Parvin Dabas, who will be seen in director Nila Madhab Panda’s next project,”Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid”,says he is honoured to be a part of the film on female foeticide.
The 38-year-old actor said that he took no time to say yes to the “I Am Kalam” director when he read the script as he was “blown away” by the story.
“I said yes to the film as soon as I finished reading the script as I was completely blown away by it. I feel honoured that Madhav asked me to be part of his film. He is a great director, who has attained national and international recognition in no time.
“Working with him has been one of my best experience till date. We have become great friends now. Next time if he asks me to be part of his film,I will not even ask for a script and just say yes,” Dabas told.
“Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid” is an adventure thriller based on the issue of female foeticide and also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, child artistes Lehar Khan,Krishang
Trivedi and Harsh Mayar.
“I play a doctor based in Delhi, who visits his village in Haryana along with his children and wife for a vacation. Though it focuses on the issue of female foeticide,it is an adventure film,a very light one. Madhav has weaved the serious subject in such a way that the film does not have a heaviness about it. It is entertaining and enjoyable,” Dabas added.
The film was screened at Marche du Cannes film festival. It was also nominated at the prestigious Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
The actor, who is married to fellow actress Preeti Jhangiani, made his directorial debut last year with “Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande”,which was co-produced by his wife.
The film mostly received positive reviews but the theatrical run was hugely affected by the anti-corruption crusade by Anna Hazare.
Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande’ could not do as expected because it was released on the same day Anna Hazare was released from jail on August 19. It is ironical because my
film dealt with social issues. But I have no regrets about it.
“Even now people call me up and congratulate me for the film. Actors from the industry have shown their interest to work with me. That is a huge reward for me and is very encouraging,” he added.
Dabas is currently working on romantic comedy “Kaha Ho Tum” and “Jab Tum Kaho”,which has been shot partly in Delhi and in Kolkata.
