Film ‘Nakshatra’ lacks the spark
Big ticket Bollywood releases generally avoid the week before Diwali and small budget films take advantage of the empty slot.
Big ticket Bollywood releases generally avoid the week before Diwali and small budget films take advantage of the empty slot.
‘Nakshatra’,starring Shub,Sabina Sheema,Milind Soman and Anupam Kher, released this week along with ‘Malik Ek’ and ‘Dayein Ya Bayein’.
The film is a crime thriller about a struggling scriptwriter, who wants to become a celebrated name in Bollywood with his very first script.
Tired of being rejected time and again,Ajay (Shubh) wastes his time on computer games but an ultimatum from his girlfriend sends him hunting for a job again. He finally finds work with four producers, who have already written a story and want Ajay to convert it into a script.
Things begin to go wrong from here,as Ajay is accused of stealing a priceless constellation from a museum. To make matters worse the producers have disappeared in thin air. Hunted by police,Ajay takes the responsibility of finding the real culprits.
Milind Soman plays a police officer, who breaks into occasional Marathi for some reason known to him while Kher plays a social worker with ulterior motives.
After a tasteless item song and few chase sequences, the Mohan Savalkar directed film finally comes to its obvious conclusion but the effort is tiring for the audience.
The most interesting part of the film is,perhaps, the intelligence of the scriptwriter, who when entrusted with the job to write a crime caper, ends up cracking the secret code of a high-security museum.
The biggest problem with the film is its story, which has been done to death in the movies of 70s. Execution and dialogues don’t help the matter either.
In one scene we are told that hero’s phone is being tapped by the police but the scriptwriter forgets this obvious risk in other scenes where the hero is shown interacting with his girlfriend on phone while still on the run.
Soman tries to lend some pace and charm to the movie but that is not enough to help the matters as far as story is concerned.
The big question, however,is what made Anupam Kher sign the film?
