Surprise CS appointment throws plans of many Babus out of the window

The appointment of new Maharashtra Chief Secretary – whom many IAS officers see as a surprise pick – has disturbed plans of many senior IAS officials. The tenure of the new CS is likely to be at least a year which means ‘many in waiting’ will retire by then. It is said that the Chief Minister picked an official who is an outsider to the political upheaval witnessed by the state in the last five years, and who comes without any baggage.

After former Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan and former top cop Rakesh Maria came out with a book on the genesis of the underworld and had another book on the later stages of the underworld on its way. At a recent function, another former Commissioner, M N Singh, announced that his book would also be out in the next couple of months. Upholders of the law in the city have taken a liking for the pen following their glory years.
