Bollywood bids adieu to Yash Chopra,poet of evergreen love

Singer Lata Mangeshkar remembered him as a brother with jovial personality and good heart.

“Yash Chopra was like a brother to me. His filmmaking had a unique style and musically they used to be a hit. His music never used to fade. He had a jovial personality and a good person at heart. I spoke last on his birthday and after that he fell ill. I thought he will be alright,” Lata said.

“Just got the news that Yashji passed on. He was one of the giants of cinema. My deepest condolences to his family. We will all miss him,” posted actress Madhuri Dixit.

“Yash Uncle we will miss you. May god give peace to your soul. RIP,” tweeted Preity Zinta,who worked with Chopra in ‘Veer-Zara’.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said,”Post independence,Yash Chopra’s contribution to Indian cinema has been immmense. In his last project ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ he gave his everything. He was a very active man.”

Shabana Azmi said,”Yashji! How could you just go? On your 80th birthday we wished for you to make 80 more films… it’s heartbreaking.

“My heart goes out for his sons Adi (Aditya) and Uday. Anything that we say is so trite and inconsequential to the body of work he has done,” she added.

“I’m in shock and numb,can’t believe the news,the man who immortalised love,Mr Yash Chopra is no more. May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the family,” tweeted actor Akshay Kumar.

Actress Sridevi,who worked with Chopra in ‘Chandni’ and ‘Lamhe’,tweeted,”Deeply saddened by the shocking news of Yashji passing away,he was full of warmth and affection whenever we met,he will be missed forever.”

Veteran singer Asha Bhosle,whose daughter Varsha passed away earlier this month,tweeted,”Just as I was getting over the grief of my daughter,my brother Yash Chopra Bhaisaab has left me. Sad year.”

“My mornings will never be the same. My learnings of life will never be the same. LOVE never be the same. And cinema will NEVER be the Same. Yash ji was my anchor,my quiet strength & my father figure in Mumbai. Never realised when our relationship shifted from films to family,” said Anupam Kher.

Farhan Akhtar said,”Today I understand the phrase ‘The end of an era’. RIP Yash uncle.”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said,”Yash Ji passed away before his last film came to the theatres.. Not done.”

Nitish condoles death of Yash Chopra

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today condoled the death of veteran Hindi film-maker and ‘King of Romance’ Yash Chopra saying it was a shock.

The death of Chopra,who has made many a good films,is a shock for movie watchers and the film industry,Kumar said in his condolence message.

Chopra who gave many a hit films commands a great respect among cinema goers. His demise is a setback for the film industry,he added.

He prayed for strength to Chopra’s family to bear the pain of his death.

Condolences pour in for Chopra; PM calls him an ‘icon’

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today led the nation in condoling the death of veteran film-maker Yash Chopra,describing him as an “icon of Indian cinema” who entertained generations.

Chopra,80,passed away at a Mumbai hospital this evening.

In his message,the Prime Minister credited the film-maker for establishing the popularity of Indian cinema internationally.

Singh described Chopra as an “icon of Indian cinema” who entertained many generations with his rare creativity.

“He had an aesthetic talent to make his films look larger than life. His flourish to essay romance and social drama was unmatched. He established the popularity of Indian cinema internationally and was honoured by many governments.

“He will be remembered by millions of his fans around the world and his work as a director and producer will be treasured by the nation for many more generations,” Singh said.

The Prime Minister sent his condolences to the bereaved family.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni also expressed her condolences.

“Today Indian cinema has lost one of its iconic personalities and a creative genius. Through films,Yashji connected generations together. His idea of portraying love as the essence of life and relationships will fondly be remembered by all movie lovers. His death is a void which will be difficult to fill,” Soni said.

Omar condoles Chopra’s death,says Kashmir lost its best envoy

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tonight condoled the death of veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra and said in his demise the state had lost its best envoy of its scenic beauty.

In his condolence message,Omar recalled his recent meeting with Chopra in Leh during a film shooting.

“Its unfortunate news as Chopra ji always wanted to make Kashmir as a second home for Bollywood,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

“He was the best envoy of our state’s natural beauty in the rest of the country and he always advocated Kashmir as a destination for shooting to many film makers,” Omar said.

The chief minister said Chopra was here during last Eid to shoot for his movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan.

“The movie will remain a part of the history of the state,” the chief minister said. The film marked Chopra’s return to film direction after a gap of nearly 10 years.

When Chopra had returned to Kashmir to shoot a film after 25 years in August,he also had a gift for the state – Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on his first professional assignment in Kashmir. Khan plays an Army bomb disposal expert in ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.

Chopra,who had last captured the Kashmir Valley on-screen in Amitabh Bachchan-Rakhee starrer ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ in 1976,had later replaced Kashmir with Swiss Alps for his films as the region struggled with militancy.
