Zarina Wahab on Sooraj Pancholi’s acquittal in Jiah Khan case: ‘Smile has returned to my son’s face, we feel normal after 10 years’
In a recent interview, Zarina Wahab opened up about son Sooraj Pancholi being acquitted in Jiah Khan's case and shared the family will lead a normal life finally after 10 years.

Last week, Sooraj Pancholi was pronounced not guilty by the special CBI Court in the Jiah Khan case. The Housefull actor died by suicide in 2013 and Sooraj was charged with abetment soon after. Mother Zarina Wahab was seen accompanying him in the court, standing strong by his side. In a recent interview, the senior actor opened up about the judgment and shared how she is ‘thankful and relieved’ after 10 years.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor said smile is back on her son’s face, and the family finally feels ‘normal’. “Otherwise for ten years we suffered all the lies in the belief that justice will finally prevail, and it did! But what about all those mothers whose sons are locked away after a failed relationship? My heart reaches out to them. No mother should suffer the way I have,” the actor said, adding that she now wants to just enjoy the family’s freedom.
She further shared that it was not possible for a family to lead a normal life ‘when their child was under trial for no fault of his’. Zarina said, “What wrong did my son do that he had to be punished for ten years? We just want to be left alone now. We want to feel like a normal family after ten years.”
In the same interview, the Chitchor actor added that she also plans to cook her son’s favourite dishes, “He hasn’t eaten properly for ten years. He will now live his life again.”
After the verdict, Sooraj Pancholi, in a statement said that he has ‘won’ his dignity and confidence back after the court found him not guilty. He said in a statement, “The verdict has taken 10 long painful years and sleepless nights, But today I have not only won this case against me but I have also won my dignity and confidence back, it took a lot of courage to face the world with such heinous allegations, I hope and pray to God that nobody goes through what I have gone through at such a young age.”
He added, “I don’t know who will give me these 10 years of my life back to me, but I am glad that this has finally come to an end not only for me but especially for my family. There is nothing bigger than peace in this world.”
