The actor has filed for divorce and the news was confirmed to indianexpress.com by a source close to the couple. Urmila got married in 2016 in a hush-hush ceremony, taking fans and fraternity alike by surprise with the news of her nuptials.
Urmila and Mohsin‘s inter-faith marriage and their 10-year age-gap led to a lot of conversation but the couple took it all in their stride.
Who is Mohsin Akhtar Mir?
Mohsin originally hails from Kashmir and is a model and businessman. At the age of 21, he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in modelling and acting. Mohsin was the second runner up in the Mr India pageant in the year 2007. Mohsin got his first break in a commercial alongside Preity Zinta. In 2009, he also marked his acting debut in the film It’s A Man’s World. He also did a small role in Farhan Akhtar-starrer, Luck By Chance.
While Mohsin could not make it in Bollwood, he is also a successful Kashmiri embroidery businessman. This work there is associated with Manish Malhotra’s label.
How Urmila and Mohsin met
Urmila reportedly met Mohsin at Manish Malhotra’s niece, Riddhi Malhotra’s wedding in 2014. The designer played cupid but it was said that it was love at first sight for Mohsin.
Mohsin received hate on social media
Post Urmila and Mohsin’s wedding, Mohsin received hate on social media for their inter-faith wedding. Talking about the same, Urmila once shared, “He was called a terrorist, a Pakistani. To top it all, my husband is not just any Muslim, but a Kashmiri Muslim. We both follow our religions in our own way, and it gave them a bigger platform to troll me. There’s a limit to where it should go.” Urmila also expressed her frustration by saying, “They even altered my Wikipedia page. It was beyond belief.”

Urmila last shared a photo with her husband in June 2023, on the occasion of Eid. In the past one year, the two have refrained from sharing pictures and content with each other on social media.
In March 2023, Urmila shared a post on her and Mohsin’s anniversary and captioned it, “Then n now..7 years on…And no..not counting as too busy living it up😍 Busy celebrating life, love, goodness, kindness n blessings 💕💕 #happyanniversary #happyanniversarymylove #happyanniversary❤️.” Mohsin too posted, “Your smile brightens up my life, just like the sun brightens the whole world. I am eternally grateful to be able to call you my wife. Happy Anniversary my ❤️😘🤗🤗🤗🤗.”

Urmila Matondkar filed for divorce at a family court in Bandra, Mumbai and it is also being reported that the separation isn’t mutual. Divorce was filed four months ago, as shared by the source.
