Aishwarya Rai has captured the hearts of millions of movie lovers worldwide, not only with her exceptional acting skills but also with her stunning beauty. Frequently referred to as “one of the most beautiful women in the world,” she won the Miss World pageant in 1994 before embarking on her cinematic journey. However, like many of her peers, Aishwarya has also been targetted by misogynists who have attempted to undermine her by making offensive comments about her appearance, physique and acting skills. Although she has never given these remarks any attention and has continued to soar, her husband Abhishek Bachchan once passionately defended her against those who call her “plastic.”
“Actually if you go to see… and now I’m not speaking like a husband, I’m speaking as a co-star and an actor… she happens to have done some of the most daring kind of roles, that an actor, who’s basically meant to have been known only for her beauty, could have done,” he said during an old interview with BBC Asian Network, as reported by Times of India. He cited films like director Jag Mundhra’s Provoked (2006), Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali (2003) and Raincoat (2004), and Mani Ratnam’s Guru (2007) to support his point, urging people to acknowledge her talent as well when discussing Aishwarya.

Having made her acting debut by playing a dual role in Mani Ratnam’s epic political drama Iruvar (1997), Aishwarya was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2009, and in 2012, the French government honoured her with the Order of Arts and Letters. She was last seen in the Ponniyin Selvan movies, her performance in which earned Aishwarya several awards.
Meanwhile, rumours have been rife that Aishwarya and Abhishek are facing trouble after 17 years of marriage. So far, the couple has kept a dignified silence on the matter. Speculation grew after they posed separately for the media at a recent Ambani wedding — Aishwarya with their daughter Aaradhya, and Abhishek with the Bachchan family, including his parents, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, and his sister Shweta Bachchan and her family.
