Vivek Oberoi says he didn’t want ‘more heartbreak’, had only ‘casual relationships’: ‘But when I loved, did so with all my heart’
Vivek Oberoi said that he became reluctant to enter into committed relationships after losing his childhood sweetheart to cancer.

Actor Vivek Oberoi opened up about having been in very few serious relationships in his life, and said that he became reluctant to commit to some serious after the death of his childhood sweetheart to cancer. Vivek said that he has never been unfaithful in relationships, and was always upfront with romantic partners that he isn’t looking for anything serious when he was younger. Vivek is now married to Priyanka Alva, and he said that she luckily doesn’t ask questions about his romantic past.
In an interview with India TV, he was asked about his earlier relationships, and Vivek said, “I’ve had very few serious girlfriends. I was very clear when I was in college. I was studying, I had already started business, I was investing in the stock market. I didn’t have time. I was very clear that I wasn’t interested in a serious, committed relationship. This was also because my childhood sweetheart died of cancer.”
He continued, “I didn’t want to go through more heartbreak, and I decided that only casual relationships work for me. I don’t count many of those as ‘girlfriends’. But when I’ve loved, I’ve loved with all my heart. I’ve always been honest, I’ve never cheated on anyone. I’ve been transparent and true.”
In a past interview, Vivek had said that several of his exes attended his wedding. “I stayed friends with a lot of my casual girlfriends and a lot of them even came to my wedding,” he told Anas Bukhash on YouTube.
In the same interview, he also opened up about a ‘toxic’ past relationship that made him wary of romance. “I didn’t want to get married, I was partying away. I was like, ‘No serious relationships. It’s too much stress, too much complications.’ I had my fatherly emotion satisfied with my nieces and nephews. So, I was like, ‘Why to get married?’ My mom said, ‘Meet this one girl, meet her and if you don’t like her, you say no, after that I will never tell you to meet anybody else but meet this one.’” He married Priyanka in 2010, and they have two children together.
