A day before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s two-day tour to Malda and Murshidabad, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday held a rally and inaugurated a 35-feet Lord Hanuman idol in Malda.
Adhikari inaugurated the idol at Phulbari-Pakurtala area of English Bazar. With only months left for the 2026 Assembly elections, Adhikari was seen promoting the message of “Hindu unity”. “There are many countries for other religions, but for Hindus there is only one country, Bharat, and the Hindus have to unite to save the Sanatan Dharma,” said the BJP leader.
“We need to save our religion because during Partition we were the worst affected. In Pakistan today, we are probably zero per cent…earlier, Sikhs and Hindus were the top traders there. Previously in Bangladesh, there were 33 per cent Hindus but now only 7 per cent are left…In Bangladesh, Hindu temples were demolished…this happened as Hindus are not united,” Adhikari said.
“Many say that religion is one’s own but festivals are for all… My message is religion is personal, and protecting it is also your personal responsibility. I do not play divisive politics, I tell the truth,” he further said.
Alleging that the “Sanatanis are divided” and advantage is being taken by creating a language divide, Adhikari asserted: “We are told to talk in our mother tongues be it Hindi, Bengali or any local language, but this is done so that we are divided… we have to be careful not to fall into any trap”.
“It is our responsibility to spread our religion all over the world. In the name of secularism, many are trying to change our religion into a cultural programme but many have understood this that is why now the participation has increased in festivals like Ram Navami and Chhath Puja. The Hindus are no longer falling in this trap and have realised that they are slowly being wiped away and being pressured”.
Adhikari warned that if “Hindus are not united” then in the near future, they will be reduced to the minorities. “If the conditions continue to be like this… one day, Hindu will be a minority.. That is why Bharatpur MLA (Humayun Kabir) is saying we are 70 per cent and they (Hindus) are 30 per cent. Stay united”.

Adhikari also urged every Hindu household to have a Tulsi mancha, read the Bhagavad Gita daily, and blow the conch.
