Before becoming the nation’s heartthrob, actor Vicky Kaushal had his share of struggles. He gave ‘10,000 auditions’ but could crack only ten. He was disheartened when his efforts didn’t give him the desired results. But his mother Veena Kaushal‘s words gave him reassurance and kept his spirit high.

The actor, while speaking to Film Companion, revealed he used to leave his house at 11 and not return before five during the initial years of his career. “I knew of certain few places where auditions happened, where were some ad agency offices, where were the offices of casting directors and filmmakers. I didn’t know what I would do but I knew that I would just go, meet people, tell them, ‘I want to act’ and give auditions. I was sure I wouldn’t just sit at home because I knew that is not how I would get work,” shared Vicky.

However, there were days when he would get disheartened and discouraged. That is when his mother told him something that gave him a lot of “power and it still does”.

Vicky shared that his mother told him, “It’s not your job to know how it’s going to happen. Your job is to have faith that it’s going to happen. The ‘how’ part of it…don’t try to become God. You can plan it but don’t kill yourself over it.” That one line gave Vicky “faith”. He shared, “She just said it non-chalantly but it gave me a lot of power at that time.”

Not just his mother, Vicky Kaushal got some pearls of wisdom from his father, Sham Kaushal, an action director in Bollywood, as well. “One thing that my dad told me was not to come with Plan B. It is different for different people, but it works for me. When I know there is no safety net, I jump a little bit more far. It gives me power,” said Vicky.

These golden words from his parents seem to have helped Vicky Kaushal throughout his career. He made his debut in a leading role with Anurag Kashyap’s Masaan in 2015. Though appreciated for his performance in Raman Raghav 2.0, he finally got recognition with the 2018 film Raazi which was followed by the massive success of Aditya Dhar’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. He also won the National Award for his performance in Sardar Udham (2021). Next, the actor will be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s film, Sam Bahadur.
