The trailer for the much-awaited Netflix documentary The Roshans is finally here. The docuseries will provide insight into the Roshan family and its members: Rajesh Roshan, Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan, as well as their contribution to Indian cinema. While Rajesh earned fame as a music director, Rakesh is among the best actor-directors of his time. Their father is music composer Roshan Lal Nagrath. Their legacy is carried forward by Rakesh’s son, Hrithik Roshan, who marked his debut with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000. He will soon complete 25 years in the industry.
The three-minute trailer gives a glimpse of the four-part docu series. It begins with Hrithik listening to his grandfather Roshan Nagrath’s song. He says, “Its very interesting how our surname went from Nagrath to Roshan.” We then hear the voice of Asha Bhosle, who can be heard saying, “Its rare where every member in the family turns out to be an artiste, this has happened in the Roshan family.” Speaking about Roshan Lal Nagrath, Bhosle recalled, “He made us sing all kind of songs.” The trailer also features filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who says, “Laga chunri mein daag, aaj tak goonjta hai.” Sonu Nigam then claims, “Nobody made a Qawwali like that till date.”
The trailer then shows Prem Chopra, who expresses grief in Roshan Nagrath’s early death. “Unfortunately, he passed away early in his life.”
The documentary also includes interviews with the Roshans. Rajesh Roshan says, “I have got my talent in genes. It is generational.” He has songs like “Saara Zamana” and “Julie” to his credit.
Rakesh Roshan is then heard recalling his decision to turn director after a series of flops as an actor. “I was ready to do the hard work, but I wasn’t finding any success. This is when I decided I will direct films and also that I will never star in my films.”
Shah Rukh Khan is even heard saying, “Rajesh Roshan and Rakesh Roshan are like Karan-Arjun.”
The trailer then goes on to give a glimpse of the success of Hrithik Roshan.
The documentary, which streams from January 17, will also feature celebs like Madhuri Dixit, Javed Akhtar, and Karan Johar, among others. It will be further packed with archival footage that will provide a rare window into the world of the Roshans.
