Amid Kerala Story controversy, Kangana Ranaut disputes Shabana Azmi’s claim that people wanted to ban Laal Singh Chaddha, gets fact-checked
Shabana Azmi tweeted that it is wrong to demand a ban on The Kerala Story, given that it has been cleared by the CBFC. Kangana Ranaut offered her two cents on the matter.

The Kerala Story continues to generate controversy, with people either celebrating its big box office numbers or calling it out for distorting facts. The film has also been pulled from theatres in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu amid a threat of protests. During all this, actor Shabana Azmi tweeted that calling for a ban on the film is ‘wrong’ as it was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification. She used Laal Singh Chaddha as an example, and actor Kangana Ranaut jumped into the conversation and tried to school on her why people did not want to see the Aamir Khan-starrer.
“Those who speak of banning #The Kerala Story are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan’s #Laal Singh Chaadha. Once a film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification nobody has the right to become an extra constitutional authority,” Shabana Azmi‘s tweet read.
Reacting to this, Kangana Ranaut wrote, “This is a very valid point except for the fact that no one asked for a ban on LSC people just didn’t want to see it for many reasons, major reason was it was a remake of a very popular old Hollywood classic which most people had already seen …”

Shabana appeared to react to Kangana’s comment, albeit without taking her name. She shared a screenshot of a news article that stated a PIL had been filed demanding the ban of Laal Singh Chaddha. The actor wrote along with the post, ” So twiterratis who are saying there was only boycotting of LSC and no call for ban kindly refresh your memory . There was a PIL asking for ban.”
On Monday, The Kerala Story producer Vipul Shah said that they will take legal action against the ban imposed by the West Bengal government on the film. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered an immediate ban on the screening of the controversial movie to avoid “any incident of hatred and violence”.
“If that’s what she has done, then we will again take legal action. Whatever is possible under the provisions of the law, we will do that,” Shah said at a press conference when asked about the ban in West Bengal. “In Tamil Nadu, one individual has threatened and forced the government to stop the release,” he said without naming anyone. “I’m requesting the government ensure that the film is released since the honourable court has already given the order. It is the state government’s duty to ensure a smooth and fair release of the film. Let people decide whether they want to see it. But this is a completely unacceptable situation,” he added, as reported by PTI.
The Kerala Story has earned Rs 45 crore in four days of release, despite poor reviews.
