The Buckingham Murders box office collection day 1 early report: After delivering a hit with Crew, Kareena Kapoor Khan has returned to the big screen with Hansal Mehta’s crime thriller The Buckingham Murders. Unlike other Bollywood films, the Kareena-starrer is made 70% in Hindi and 30% in English. While it was expected the movie might do well with no other releases around, so far, the film has earned just Rs 37 lakh nett in India, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk.

The crime thriller witnessed an overall occupancy of 6.93% on Friday. In total, the film had over 1300 shows in India with the highest number of shows in NCR (366). It was followed by 237 shows in Mumbai, 213 in Ahmedabad, and 72 in Lucknow.

The Buckingham Murders was in the making since 2022 with most of the film being shot in London. The movie follows the story of a British-Indian detective who recently lost her child and is assigned the case of a murdered 10-year-old child in Buckinghamshire.

While the film opened to mixed reviews, Kareena Kapoor’s performance was highly praised. Shubra Gupta, in her review for indianexpress.com, wrote, “The small town murder mystery has been seeing something of a revival lately, and Kareena Kapoor Khan is clearly reveling in her Kate Winslet era. But ‘Mare of Easttown’, ‘The Buckingham Murders’ is not. There’s a lot that the disparate strands– the problems that immigrants face in assimilating into the social fabric of a foreign land, the anti-LGBTQ atmosphere in conservative pockets, the resentment of the locals, the rampant drug use, the economic distress currently at an all-time high in the UK– are trying to knit together. As a result, the murder mystery, which is meant to be at the core of the film, stays nestled uneasily within.”

The Buckingham Murders, co-produced by Kareena Kapoor Khan, also stars Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Prabhleen Sandhu, among others.
