The Bengal Files box office collection day 5: The film, starring actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi, has only made Rs 9.19 crore so far.

The Bengal Files box office collection day 5: Director Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Bengal Files, which has been made on a reported budget of Rs 50 crore is yet to reach the Rs 10 crore mark at the box office. The film was released on September 5, although it wasn’t allowed to play in West Bengal. It opened at Rs 1.75 crore and over the weekend, earned Rs Rs 6.75 crore followed by Rs 1.15 crore on first Monday, and Rs 1.29 crore on Tuesday, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s total collection stands at Rs 9.19 crore India net.
The third film in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Files trilogy, after The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), has also witnessed a reduction in the number of shows in just five days of its release. While it opened with 1102 shows across the country, it has now reduced to 863 with just 34.91% overall occupancy on day five. The Kashmir Files remains Agnihotri’s biggest box office hit, with a global collection of Rs 341 crore. That film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 15 crore and earned a profit of Rs 30 crore for the filmmaker. It was produced by Tej Narayan Agarwal, and his son Abhishek Agarwal.
The Bengal Files box office will decide the fate of Vivek Agnihotri’s future films
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Vivek Agnihotri shared: “My biggest challenge is money. Nobody backs our film until the last minute. Whatever money we earned in Kashmir Files, we have put in making The Bengal Files. I don’t know what will happen to me after this [financially].” He added: “We made The Kashmir Files on a budget of Rs 15 crore. We earned Rs 30 crore from that film. We invested it in The Bengal Files. We also borrowed some money to make this film which is yet to be paid.”
In the interview, Vivek also admitted that the box office performance of The Bengal Files will decide his next line of projects which include a sequel to The Bengal Files and his dream project: Mahabharat.
The Bengal Files released against Baaghi 4
The Kashmir Files released against Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4 at the box office. That film opened at Rs 12 crore and continued to earn in double digits over the weekend, making its opening weekend collection of Rs 32 crore. On Tuesday, the film earned Rs 4 crore, taking its five day total collection to Rs 39.75 crore. The action thriller film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is made on a reported budget of Rs 80 crore. The film stars actors Sanjay Dutt, Harnaaz Sandhu, Sonam Bajwa and Shreyas Talpade in important roles.
Tiger Shroff’s film has also seen a reduction in its number of shows across the country. While it had about 4001 shows on day one, the numbers had reduced to 2923 by day five. Both films received mixed reviews upon their release on September 5.
The Bengal Files remains banned in West Bengal
According to reports, Vivek Agnihotri’s film has been unofficially banned in the West Bengal, as theatre owners have refused to show it. On Tuesday, the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association wrote to PM Narendra Modi, requesting him to intervene in the issue. The concern was brought forward by Agnihotri’s wife, actor Pallavi Joshi, who appealed President Droupadi Murmu and highlighted concerns over restrictions in the state.
The film is based on the Direct Action Day and Noakhali riots, depicting the violence and its aftermath in the state.
