The Bengal Files box office collection day 4: Vivek Agnihotri’s film crashes to Rs 95 lakh on Monday, still hasn’t hit Rs 8 crore in India
The Bengal Files box office collection day 4: Vivek Agnihotri’s film drops sharply on Monday, earning only Rs 95 lakh amid tough competition from Baaghi 4 and The Conjuring Last Rites.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s latest release, The Bengal Files, has turned out to be one of the most controversial films of the year. While facing a ban in West Bengal, the film was released on the same day as Baaghi 4 and The Conjuring: Last Rites, resulting in stiff box office competition. With the odds stacked against it, the film’s performance has been affected, but Monday brought a particularly steep fall as it collected just Rs 95 lakh.
The Bengal Files box office and occupancy
The film began its box office journey with Rs 1.75 crore on Friday. It gained some momentum over the weekend, collecting Rs 2.25 crore on Saturday, marking a 28.57 percent jump in earnings. This was followed by another 22.22 percent rise on Sunday, as it raked in Rs 2.75 crore. However, the film’s performance dropped sharply by 65 percent on Monday as it earned only Rs 95 lakh. This brings the film’s total domestic collection to Rs 7.7 crore.
Apart from being banned in West Bengal, the film secured limited shows across the country in its very first week. On Monday, the highest number of shows were in the Delhi NCR region — 216 screenings — where it recorded an occupancy of 16 percent. This was followed by Mumbai with 191 shows, but here it saw a slightly better occupancy of 21.67 percent. Bengaluru had 62 shows and registered the best response with an average occupancy of 29.67 percent.
The Bengal Files vs Baaghi 4 and The Conjuring: Last Rites
When compared with the Baaghi franchise, Baaghi 4 may have underperformed against its predecessors, but it has still managed to give tough competition to Vivek Agnihotri’s film. On Monday, Baaghi 4 collected Rs 4.25 crore, taking its domestic collection to Rs 35.5 crore.
On the other hand, the Hollywood horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites has proven to be a nightmare for both Baaghi 4 and The Bengal Files. The film has struck a strong chord with Indian audiences and outperformed both Hindi releases. It raked in Rs 5 crore on Monday, taking its total domestic collection to Rs 55.5 crore — far ahead of both Indian films.
The Bengal Files is the concluding chapter in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Files trilogy, which began with The Tashkent Files (2019) followed by The Kashmir Files (2022). The film is based on Direct Action Day and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar in lead roles.
