Many filmmakers have voiced concerns over the rising entourage costs of actors and the overall surge in film production expenses. Recently, Sonu Sood, who is making his directorial debut with Fateh, highlighted the wastage of money during film shoots. He pointed out issues like actors arriving late on set, delays between takes, and producers taking oversized crews of 150-200 people overseas when only 100 are needed.
As the director, producer, and lead actor of Fateh, Sood has actively worked to minimize unnecessary overhead costs. Sharing his cost-cutting measures, he revealed that he traveled to the US alone to shoot sequences and hired a local team of just 12 people to execute the shoot efficiently.
In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Sonu elaborated, “A lot of money spent on films doesn’t reflect on screen. For example, an actor scheduled to shoot in the morning might arrive at 3 in the afternoon. In between shots, actors sit inside their vans and only come out slowly once the setup is ready – meanwhile, the meter is still running. For overseas shoots, producers often take 150-200 people when only 100 are actually needed.”
Sonu shared that he traveled alone to the U.S. to shoot a sequence for his film, hiring a local team of just 12 people for the shoot. He said, “I went to America without my crew and hired professionals there. to get permission to shoot at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is very challenging. They only granted me permission to shoot with 12 people, and I completed the entire sequence with that team.”
He added, “When I went to Dubai to shoot, I only took 6 people with me, along with actors. I hired people there. Because I was also the producer of the film, I was able to save so much, others producers take 50-100 people abroad.”
Apart from Sonu, Fateh features Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles. The film is set to release in theaters on January 10.
