Kunal Kemmu says mom-in-law Sharmila Tagore didn’t make eye contact with him for ‘the longest time’, Saif Ali Khan complimented his biceps
Kunal Kemmu recalled his first meetings with Soha Ali Khan's family members, brother Saif Ali Khan, and mother Sharmila Tagore.

Actor Kunal Kemmu said that he was rather intimidated in his first meeting with in-laws Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. In an interview, Kunal looked back on his love story with wife Soha Ali Khan, and also reflected on his first-ever interaction with her brother, Saif Ali Khan. He said that Saif’s biggest takeaway from their meeting was that he, Kunal, had ‘good biceps’.
Kunal appeared on Raj Shamani’s podcast, where he said that he was watching one of Soha’s films, when he visualised her as his future girlfriend, but thought that she was ‘way out of (his) league’. Asked how his first meetings with Soha’s illustrious family members went, Kunal said in Hindi, “The meetings happened organically, but I was terrified.”
Asked who he was scared to meet the most, the actor continued, “You’re always more nervous to meet the parents, and in her household, everybody is a champion. The first time I met Saif bhai was, we used to go play pool at a friend’s place. Bhai and his friend came together, and we met for the first time while playing pool. And the first thing he noticed about me was, ‘You’ve got good biceps’. I remember he was the coolest person. It was too early for him to ask me what my intentions were, but he just chilled with us. He’s just such a nice person in general, and we’ve spent so much time together, we hardly ever talk about films. He has vivid interests, and he wants to know what your interests are and talk about those.”
Going back to their first meeting over pool, Kunal said that they got ‘pretty competitive’ and the conversation revolved mostly around fitness and travel. He asked Soha if Saif had said anything about him to her, and her response was, “He said you have good biceps.”
But Kunal’s first meeting with Soha’s parents was more nerve-wracking. “The most intimidating was meeting Amma. Dad was also pretty cool, but I was just intimidated anyways, even though he’s pretty sweet. I remember Amma didn’t make eye contact with me for the longest time. Her questions weren’t directed at me. She asked, ‘So, what do you do?’ looking at a magazine. That was the first meeting, in the second meeting I got eye contact, and then we became really cool,” he said.
Soha and Kunal tied the knot in 2015 after dating for a couple of years. In 2017, they welcomed daughter Inaaya Naumi.
