Shakti Kapoor says Feroz Khan got ‘scared’, and thought he would ‘hit’ him after their cars collided; but accident earned him Qurbani: ‘Want a villain like him’
Shakti Kapoor opened up about how an unfortunate accident turned fortunate for him and got him a role in the 1980 film Qurbani, also starring Vinod Khanna, Feroz Khan and Amrish Puri.

Actor Shakti Kapoor took a trip down memory lane and recalled how he bagged a role in the 1980 film Qurbani. Kapoor, who played the villain Vikram Singh in the film, shared how a fortunate incident involving Feroz Khan changed his life.
In an interview with DD Urdu, Kapoor said “I did an advertisement and I got Rs 13,000 as remuneration. I was always a fan of cars and I bought myself a second-hand car. The car’s doors opened from the front. I was driving my Fiat on Bandra’s Linking Road when a Mercedes, in an attempt to overtake, rammed into my car and my car moved to a corner.”
In a fit of anger, Kapoor stepped out of his car, determined to take money for the damages from the defaulter. He mentioned that he didn’t even have enough money for petrol, and now someone had damaged his car. He said, “I was furious and got out of the car to yell at the driver. The moment the car’s door opened, I saw the person who was driving the Mercedes was none other than Feroz Khan. All my anger vanished looking at him and I told him that I am an actor and I requested him to give me a chance in films. He said, ‘Ya, ya will see. What have you done to my car?’ and left. There was a crowd that gathered to see him.”
The actor then recounted visiting writer KK Shukla’s house on the day of the accident. Upon seeing him, Shukla remarked, “Teri kismat kharab hai (Your luck is bad).” Kapoor agreed and joined him for a drink. Shukla informed him that there was a negative role in a film for which he recommended him, but the film’s director was insistent on casting the boy who had an accident in the afternoon with Feroz Khan.
Shukla told him, “When that guy got down from his car, Feroz Khan got scared and he thought he would hit him. I want a villain like him who can scare people. He said I want that guy.”
Shakti revealed to the writer that he was the one who had the accident with Khan and expressed his delight upon hearing the news. Shukla then made a call to Khan and informed him that the person who was in the accident with him was sitting right in front of him. That is how Shakti Kapoor got cast in Qurbani.
With Feroz Khan and Vinod Khanna’s dazzling screen presence, along with chart-topping hits like ‘Laila’ and ‘Aap Jaisa Koi,’ Qurbaani is still loved by many. The film also starred late Bollywood star, Amrish Puri.
