Shakti Kapoor reveals the origin of ‘Nanha sa, pyaara sa’ catchphrase: ‘Whenever my wife used to get angry…’
In a recent interview, Shakti Kapoor spoke about how he used one-liners from his real life for his on-screen characters.
Shakti Kapoor played Batuknath Lallanprasad Maalpani aka Balma in Chaalbaaz. Shakti Kapoor can ably scare you or make you laugh with his diverse roles. Apart from his performances, one also remembers him for his many ‘takia kalams’. Be it ‘Nandu sabka bandhu’ in Raja Babu or ‘Main hun crime master Godo’ in Andaz Apna Apna, Kapoor’s one-liners made the maximum effect. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about adding these elements to his characters by grasping them from people around him.
During an interview with Doordarshan, Shakti Kapoor was asked about his many popular catchphrases. When asked if it was him or his directors who created the magic, he smiled to share that he would suggest it to them and if they liked it, the line would become part of the character. He added that he has a habit of observing people around him and picking up something peculiar from them.
“I had a friend in New York, who would say ‘Pappu chal gaya chappu’ while driving. I used that in my character. Then Govinda suggested ‘Nandu sabka bandu‘ (during Raja Babu). And then ‘Aaoo Lolita’ became popular in Tohfa or Crime Master Gogo saying ‘Aankein nikal ke gotiyan khelunga (in Andaz Apna Apna),” he shared.
Shakti Kapoor then made a rather sweet confession when he was asked about his popular dialogue from Chaalbaaz (1989). He shared that the line ‘Nanha sa, pyaara sa, chota sa baccha hu’ came from his own personal conversation with his wife, Shivangi Kolhapure.
“Every time she would get angry with me, I would use the dialogue to make up with her. She would start laughing as I acted it out and things would be fine between us,” he shared in Hindi. Shakti then added that he had told about the same to his friend and co-actor, Anupam Kher, who suggested he use this in Chaalbaaz.
“He said it would be fun and when I told the director, he too liked it. And that’s how it became part of the film,” Kapoor revealed.
The actor also spoke about how many new actors and now, even content creators mimic him. He shared that while it’s a sign of popularity, some fail at copying him well, leaving him disheartened.
Shakti Kapoor was last seen in JioCinema’s Trial Period.
