Farida Jalal, who was recently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar as Tajdaar’s fun-loving grandmother, has been Bollywood’s favourite maa, dadi and nani. The veteran actress who has shared the screen with several superstars in important roles, recently opened up about her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Hrithik Roshan. While she called Shah Rukh Khan ‘ziddi (stubborn)’, she revealed Hrithik Roshan is her favourite and she never misses a single film of the actor.

Farida, who has worked with Shah Rukh in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, among others, in a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble said, “Shah Rukh Khan is a stubborn person. Otherwise, he is extremely loving and caring. I don’t think he is someone who compromises very much, if he wants something, he will strive towards it till he has it. He is extremely ambitious. I knew he would someday become a big man, and today he is, I am so proud of him.”

She added, “On the other hand, Salman Khan is a very laid-back person. He is very bindass. He is never like ‘I have to do this’, however, this thing was very much in Shah Rukh Khan. ‘I have to do this’.”

Speaking further about Shah Rukh Khan, Farida Jalal recalled the time when she interviewed the superstar in the 90s as part of one of her shows. She said, “He (Shah Rukh) has told so much about his life to me, his love life, his ambition. He would talk like a child to me. There’s huge difference between the then Shah Rukh and now the man he is now.”

During the interview with Bollywood Bubble, Farida was asked if today she had to interview Shah Rukh, what are the three things she would like to ask him, after hesitating a bit, Farida Jalal said, “I will ask how could you replace your mom? How could you become someone else’s kid?”

She recalled how Shah Rukh used to pull her leg and also revealed about his bonding with Dilip Kumar. “I was a die hard fan of Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh would tease me and wait for my reactions for fun. He would say. ‘Woh toh aise karte hai, aise method acting karte hai,’ I used to be like, ‘Shut up Shah Rukh, don’t you dare say anything against Dilip Kumar’. I used to scream at him and yet he would keep teasing me. On the other hand, he himself was Dilip Kumar’s biggest fan.”

She said once Saira Banu had said that if ever Dilip Sahab and she had a son, he would have been just like Shah Rukh Khan.

Farida also recalled how she loves Hrithik Roshan and was extremely worried when he played Akbar in Ashutosh Gowariker’s 2008 film Jodhaa Akbar.

“Hrithik to me is like my own. I was a part of his first film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and since first day, I developed a very special bond with him. Then we worked together in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. We were shooting in London for this film. He told me during that time I am going to watch an opera, I will take you with me, but that date of ours never happened. He’s such a darling man.”

She added, “I would also love to add that Hrithik is a hard worker. Everybody put hard work in their respective jobs, but there is no comparison with Hrithik Roshan. I salute his efforts. I love him a lot. The way he is around me and treats me, cares for me, it is just amazing. I watch every film of Hrithik Roshan. When I went to watch Jodhaa Akbar, I was extremely worried that he is playing the role of the Mughal emperor and if he fails to get his Urdu right, it would be devastating. After all, he had become quite popular by that time and was considered one of the biggest stars in Bollywood.”

“I was praying secretly and saying, ‘Hrithik please don’t disappoint me’, and when I heard him speaking in Urdu, I was thrilled and clapped in excitement. I gave him full points. This is the hard work I am talking about. Even the most experienced ones fail to pull this off. They don’t work on their Urdu. In recent times, I have seen Manisha Koirala work really hard to improve her Urdu for Heeramandi. She would put a lot of effort,” the Shararat actress added.
