Actor Poonam Dhillon brought the concept of vanity vans to the country and now every actor operates from a vanity van on outdoor shoots. Be it changing costumes, having meals, or taking some rest between shots, vanity vans are homes away from home for actors who work round the clock. Recently, businessman Ketan Rawal, who owns 65 vanity vans, revealed that the first ever customised vanity van was made for actor Saif Ali Khan and at present, it is Kangana Ranaut who owns the costliest vanity van. Also, Nora Fatehi is among the only few people who have CCTV cameras in her vanity van.

Revealing details about Kangana’s vanity van, Rawal told Dainik Bhaskar, “Kangana wanted a traditional look (for her vanity van). The interior designer who designed her house also designed her vanity van. She has sofas with carvings her chairs are all made of the original wood. Our priority was to make her feel at home in the vanity van. This is my costliest vanity van. I spent Rs 65 lakh to customise it for Kangana.”

Rawal also provides a vanity van for Shah Rukh Khan whenever he shoots at places where his vanity van can’t be transported. “Shah Rukh’s vanity is so big that it cannot go to every place. Once, he was shooting outside Mumbai and his van couldn’t reach there. So, I provided a vanity van for 35 days. Since then, he has been using my services whenever his vanity van cannot be used.”

Rawal revealed that he has provided vanity vans to Nora Fatehi, John Abraham, Nayanthara, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Shetty, the Ambani family and several others. He also shared that Nora is among the few celebrities who have got CCTV installed both inside and outside her vanity van. “Nora wants to look at her fans from inside her vanity van and while she is shooting, she keeps a check on what is happening in her vanity van,” Rawal shared.

Actor Nayanthara, who will be seen opposite Shah Rukh in Atlee’s Jawan, unlike many celebrities, has only one room in her vanity van. Rawal shared, “Generally, celebs have two rooms in their vanity van, one for themselves and the other for their staff. But Nayanthara wanted only one room and a washroom with a cubical shower in her vanity van.”

Rawal also revealed that filmmaker Rohit Shetty got a big room for himself in his vanity van so that he can conduct meetings in it after packing up the shoot. He also shared that John Abraham wanted to ensure that the TV in his vanity van has as many sports channels as possible.

However, Ketan Rawal’s vanity van business, which he started in 2005, came to a standstill during the coronavirus outbreak. At that time, he provided vanity vans for the Mumbai police, mostly because he was ‘heartbroken’ to know that female officers didn’t drink water on duty due to a lack of washrooms.
